I travel to find perspective. Here are some stories from the road.
A summer school at the University of Jyväskylä turned into an unforgettable Nordic adventure. Between lectures on Bayesian optimization and accessible design, I found myself standing under the aurora borealis — green light rippling across the sky like something out of a dream. The Finnish lakes, the endless twilight, and the quietness of a country where nature still wins.
After Finland, I took the Viking Line overnight ferry across the Baltic — waking up to the Stockholm archipelago. A quick visit to KTH, the statue of King Karl XII, and the old town. Sweden felt like Finland's more cosmopolitan sibling — the same calm, but with a layer of urban polish.
Two layovers, two cities — Frankfurt's massive glass terminal and Munich's surprisingly cozy airport. Not enough time to leave the airport, but enough for a proper Schnitzel and a beer. Sometimes the in-between moments are their own kind of travel.
Singapore hit differently after months in the Nordic cold. The Changi Jewel waterfall, the Marina Bay skyline through a bus window, and the humid air that wraps around you the moment you step outside. A city that runs like clockwork but never feels sterile.
Malaysia was all about texture — the peeling murals of George Town, the seafood by the Penang shore, the view from the top of Penang Hill where the whole Strait of Malacca stretches out below. And then Malacca, with its layers of colonial history and hawker stalls that never close.
